Interested in multiple programs?

Dual Major with CS-Eng, DS-Eng, or Computer Engineering

CS-Eng, DS-Eng, and CE students can pursue a dual major with another CoE department, when interested. Students considering adding a second major should be mindful of the following:

  • Dual majors must reach 142 CTP before graduation.
  • Dual majors pursuing two EECS majors must complete an additional 14 credits of technical coursework beyond what’s shared between two majors.
  • Students must take a CS-Eng MDE course and earn a C or higher, even if a senior design course is required of the other major.
  • Please note: A dual major combination of CS-Eng with DS-Eng is not allowed.

Details and a list of double counting courses by dual major can be found here.

Multiple Dependent Degree Program (MDDP)

Students hoping to declare two majors housed within different schools/colleges must apply for MDDP. Approval is required from both units in order to participate in MDDP.

Please note: The following MDDP combinations are not allowed:

  • CS-Eng with DS-LSA
  • DS-Eng with CS-LSA

Students in CSE (CS-Eng, CS-LSA, or DS-Eng) looking to add another major:

  1. Seek advice about MDDP from both the CSE Undergraduate Advising Office and your school/college of interest about pursuing MDDP.
  2. Fill out your portion of the Undergraduate Dual Degree Approval Form.
    1. CS-Eng and DS-Eng students only:
      • If you would like the College of Engineering to be your Home Unit, please obtain a signature from your other school/college first. Once signed by the other school/college, submit your form to the Office of Recruitment and Admissions in CoE (enginrta@umich.edu) for a signature to confirm whether or not you qualify for MDDP.
      • If you would like the other school/college to be your Home Unit, first submit your form to the Office of Recruitment and Admissions in CoE (enginrta@umich.edu) for a signature to confirm whether or not you qualify for MDDP. Once signed by the College of Engineering, request a signature from your new program.
  3. Once your form is completed by all relevant parties, the Home Unit will submit the completed form with all required signatures to the Registrar’s Office for processing (ro.records.staff@umich.edu). Please note that CS-LSA students need a signature from their LSA major advisor and Newnan advisor.
