Long-term Mentoring for CSE Students and Alumni

As a mentor, you play a crucial role in supporting the professional and personal development of our students. Your dedication and support are invaluable in helping our students succeed.

Mentor CSE Master’s Students

The Master’s student mentoring program is semester long (12 weeks) and open to all CSE alumni. Each mentor will work with up to 4 students. Mentors and students are assigned to each other based on previously indicated interests and mentor’s availability. Mentors will meet with their students as a group at least once a month to discuss topics related to academic work and career choices.

The goal of the program is to provide additional forms of support to CSE Master’s students and create opportunities for creating connections outside of school.

Alumni to Alumni Mentoring

Alum to alum mentoring has the option of a 12 week or 1 year commitment and is open to all CSE alumni. Each mentor will be paired with another alum to work with 1:1. Mentors and mentees are assigned to each other based on previously indicated interests and participants availability. Mentors will meet with their mentee at least once a month to discuss topics related to career goals and ongoing work in academics or industry.

Alumni to alumni mentoring benefits both parties. Long-term mentoring relationships create deeper connections and allow for mutual learning and growth.

Mentor Michigan AI Lab Students and Lab Alumni

The Michigan AI Lab mentorship program connects current Michigan AI PhD students with alumni who have graduated from the Michigan AI PhD program and also aims to help our alumni connect with each other.

Choose to mentor current students or fellow alumni associated with the Michigan AI Lab. This program requires a minimum 1 year commitment aiming for at least 2-3 meeting times per term, encouraging meeting as often as appropriate for your needs and availability.

  • Provide guidance and support to mentees in achieving their academic and career goals.
  • Share insights, experiences, and advice based on your own professional journey.
  • Assist mentees in developing networking skills and professional connections.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with mentees.

Goal Setting and Monitoring

  • Help mentees identify short-term and long-term goals.
  • Track progress towards goals and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Celebrate achievements and milestones along the way.
