Share your expertise and experiences with CSE students
Alumni play a significant role in shaping the futures of students. By offering guidance in professional growth, mentoring one-on-one or in small collectives, sharing insights in an educational setting or during a gathering, or assisting in the cultivation of networks and fostering a sense of community, they equip students with the tools they need to seamlessly transition from academic life to their professional careers.

Professional development sessions
Resume/CV review sessions
Offer honest feedback on a resume’s strengths and weaknesses in format, layout, content, and language. Help tailor their resume for specific jobs or industries, highlight relevant skills and accomplishments, and guide students on how to avoid common mistakes like typos and irrelevant information. Reviewers should provide insight on what employers seek, keyword usage, and showcasing achievements. Alumni reviewers offer valuable advice on crafting a successful resume by sharing their own experiences and perspectives.
Mock interview sessions
Help students gain confidence in their skills and feel more comfortable in an interview setting. By practicing responses to common interview questions, students can refine their answers and improve their introductions and body language. They can also receive honest feedback on how an interviewer might perceive them. Point out their strengths and share your own experiences to help set them up for success.
How professional development sessions work:
- CSE hosts professional development events once per term in the Fall and Winter.
- Register in the CSE portal and indicate your volunteering preferences in your profile.
- CSE will reach out to you two or more weeks prior to a professional development workshop to confirm your availability for your preferred session type and number of hours you can commit.
- Students will be scheduled to 30 minute blocks. You will receive scheduling confirmation and meeting links and information from CSE.
