RACKHAM FACULTY ALLIES SPEAKER SERIES
Digital technologies, including mobile devices, cloud computing services, and social networks, play a nuanced role in intimate partner violence (IPV) settings, including domestic abuse, stalking, and surveillance of victims by abusive partners. In this talk I will survey our recent and ongoing work on understanding technology’s role in IPV, and improving technologies to increase privacy and safety for victims.
Nicola Dell is an Assistant Professor at Cornell Tech in New York City. Her research interests are in information and communication technologies for development (ICTD) and human-computer interaction (HCI), with a focus on designing and evaluating systems that improve the lives of underserved populations. Nicki completed her Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle. Her work is generously funded by the NSF, Facebook, Google, and others.
