Speaker bios:

Rachel Richesson, PhD, MPH, MS, FACMI
Professor, Learning Health Sciences, Medical School, University of Michigan

Dr. Richesson conducts original research on the quality and usability of data from electronic health records (EHRs) for research, and has fostered numerous interdisciplinary research collaborations. She has directed implementation of data standards for a number of multi-national multi-site clinical research and epidemiological studies, including the NIH Rare Diseases Clinical Research Network, Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet, and The Environmental Determinants of Diabetes in the Young (TEDDY) study, and the national distributed Patient Centered Outcomes Research Network (PCORnet). Dr. Richesson currently leads the EHR Core for the NIH Health Systems Research Collaboratory, which is developing standards and quality metrics for clinical phenotyping using EHR data in pragmatic clinical trials.

Gretchen A. Piatt, MPH, PhD
Associate Professor, Learning Health Sciences, Medical School, University of Michigan

Dr. Gretchen Piatt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Learning Health Sciences (DLHS) in the Medical School and Health Behavior and Health Education in the School of Public Health. Dr. Piatt serves as the Associate Chair for Educational Programs in DLHS, and is the Graduate Chair for the Health Infrastructures and Learning Systems (HILS) MS/PhD program and Director of the Precision Health Graduate Certificate Program. Dr. Piatt completed her masters and doctoral training at the University of Pittsburgh in chronic disease epidemiology and is a formally trained implementation scientist. Dr. Piatt has expertise in designing, implementing, and evaluating community interventions aimed at improving health care delivery in ethnic minority and underserved populations with diabetes.
