Title: Lessons Learned as a Student and Teacher

Tentative Abstract: A nice but unexpected theme has emerged in my life, and that is I've spent quite a bit of time learning about learning and about teaching. I started teaching in formal contexts when I was a high school student and have continued to do so every since. As a UofM EECS graduate student I was a GSTA for a number of years. For my dissertation research I worked with neural models of learning and memory. And my dissertation chair, Stephen Kaplan, had appointments in both the EECS and Psychology Departments. So my graduate school education was infused with cognitive psychology. And to this day, I find myself spending a lot of time thinking about teaching. During this talk, I would like to bring together a number of these strands and share some of what I've learned.
