Abstract:
The journey of innovation is enriched when multiple disciplines intersect and new ideas emerge. Over the last few decades, emerging infrastructure and workload paradigms have shaped the HW/SW architecture evolution and direction significantly. In this talk, I will cover my journey in architecture and emerging workload / infrastructure research with an emphasis on innovation at the intersection. I will start by describing QoS research that resulted in architecture innovations to support the emerging multi-tenant cloud and edge infrastructure challenges. I will then touch upon domain-specific innovations to enable efficiency and scalability for emerging usages including visual, AI and comms. I will close with examples of on-going research and future directions to innovate and co-design across AI, systems and architectures for the next generation of workload paradigms and intelligent systems.
