Mobile Music Making between Realtime Sound Synthesis and Mobile HCI
Georg EsslSenior Research ScientistDeutsche Telekom Labs, TU-Berlin
Mobile Music Making tries to turn commodity mobile devices such as cell phones into interactive music instruments. The effort to develop this technology draws on various different types of research – from the development of expressive realtime sound synthesis algorithms, to the study of mobile interaction given the devices' unique constraints and abilities. We will discuss physical models, non-linear oscillators as well as experimental results studying interaction technologies and mobile embedding paradigms and show why we care about these things when wanting to make noise with mobile devices.
