Usama is visiting Michigan as a special Homecoming guest of the College of Engineering and will give this lecture during his visit. Usama is also the CSE Alumni Merit Award Winner for 2009.

Most recently Chief Data Officer and Senior Vice President of Research and Strategic Data Solutions for Yahoo!, Dr. Fayyad is the co-founder of two data-mining companies: DMX Group and digiMine Inc. As CEO at digiMine, Dr. Fayyad raised over $5 Million in venture capital from top VC firms and led the growth of the company from 3 to 120 employees. Dr. Fayyad has held leadership positions at Microsoft and at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where his work garnered him a U.S. Government Medal. He has published over 100 technical articles in the fields of data mining, artificial intelligence, and database systems, and holds over 20 patents. He is a fellow of the AAAI and of ACM.
