Arthur F. Thurnau Professor Peter Chen has been named interim chair of the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) division in the University of Michigan College of Engineering. Chen served in this capacity early in 2017.

Chen has served as CSE’s chief undergraduate program advisor and as faculty advisor to the CSE Scholars student group. Five times he has been voted Eta Kappa Nu EECS Professor of the Year by undergraduate and graduate students.

“Professor Chen is committed to working with students, faculty and staff to address current and emerging CSE challenges and opportunities,” said Alec D. Gallimore, the Robert J. Vlasic Dean of Engineering. “I have full confidence that he will collaborate across the division to ensure a successful transition.”

Chen will serve in this interim role until the end of Winter Term 2020, at the discretion of Gallimore, with an anticipated 3 year appointment pending Regental approval later this term.
