Third Annual Data Mining Workshop Brings Together 100+ Researchers
On Wednesday, April 18, 2012, over 100 researchers from across the University of Michigan and from industry gathered on North Campus for the third U-M Workshop on Data Mining.
Organized by Prof. Michael Cafarella and sponsored by Yahoo!, Computer Science and Engineering, and the Office of Research Cyberinfrastructure, the workshop brought together researchers currently using data mining or interested in the use of data mining to make connections and share experiences and results.
The agenda for the workshop (link to PDF) included 12 presentations and was followed by a CSE Distinguished Lecture by Michael Jordan of University of California Berkeley, entitled “Statistics and Computation in the Age of Massive Data.”
A range of units from across U-M participated in the workshop, including units from the College of Engineering, several domain units in the natural sciences, medical sciences, social sciences, and humanities, and U-M Dearborn. External entities registered for the workshop included Yahoo!, Compendia Bioscience, Ford Motor Company, Wayne State University, Michigan State University, and Dow Chemical Company.
