Career Center report shows computer scientists highly sought after, best compensated

The Engineering Career Resource Center (ECRC) has issued its 2011-2012 Annual Report (pdf), which includes placement and salary survey data for College of Engineering Co-op students, Interns, Bachelor’s students, and Master’s students. The report shows that the three EECS undergrad majors – computer science, computer engineering, and electrical enginering – were the three most sought by recruiters.

Additionally, in all categories of undergraduate employment, computer science students reported the highest median salaries. Students from the department’s CS-LSA program are included in the computer science statistics.

Median starting salary data from the report includes:

  • CS Co-op median monthly salary: $4853
  • CE Co-op median monthly salary: $3001
  • CS Bachelor’s Internship median monthly salary: $4160
  • CE Bachelor’s Internship median monthly salary: $3727
  • CSE Master’s internship median monthly salary: $6392
  • CS Bachelor’s program full-time hire, median annual starting salary: $77,500
  • CE Bachelor’s program full-time hire, median annual starting salary: $65,000
  • CSE Master’s program full-time hire, median annual starting salary: $85,000

Computer science placed first as the undergraduate major most requested by organizations recruiting through the ECRC, with 61% of employers seeking computer science students. 59% of employers sought computer engineering majors, and 56% sought electrical engineering majors.
