HACKS Spirit and CSE Service Award Nomination Information
Each year, CSE selects one student for the CSE HACKS Spirit Award. Nominees for the CSE HACKS Spirit Award will also be considered for the CSE Service Award, so no additional nomination is needed.
Award Description
The CSE HACKS Spirit Award is established to honor a CSE graduate student who embodies the spirit of our HACKS values. These values are central to who CSE is as a community. The Division wants to acknowledge the efforts of a graduate student who has embodied these values in helping the community accomplish its mission and realize the vision for the future.
The award recipient is recognized at the CSE Graduate Student Recognition Reception.
One $1000 award will be made.
Eligibility
Any current CSE Graduate Student (Master’s, SUGS, or PhD) may be nominated. Students may receive this award only one time.
Criteria
Award recipient will have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the HACKS values:
Honesty – Conduct ourselves with integrity and communicate with transparency and authenticity.
Achievement – Strive for academic excellence and celebrate personal and collective efforts and accomplishments.
Cooperation – Collaborate in work and learning, promote inclusion and mutual respect, encourage diverse perspectives, and look after each other.
Knowledge – Protect academic freedom, advance learning and scientific progress, and cultivate wisdom.
Service – Contribute to the well-being of our community and global society.
Deadline & Nomination Process
A current CSE graduate student may be nominated by a student, faculty, or staff member, or may self-nominate. The following materials must be submitted:
- Nomination letter that addresses the qualifications of the nominee, noting their achievements and contributions to the CSE community (successful nominations have highlighted strong supporting evidence for each HACKS value area)
- Student CV/Resume
For 2025, the deadline is 9:00 AM EDT on Monday, February 24th. No extensions can be provided.
